Oakseed Bible — Privacy Policy

Overview

Oakseed Bible is a free Bible reading and study app published by Oakseed Ministries. There are no ads, no subscriptions, and no in-app purchases. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with anyone, and we do not use advertising or cross-app tracking of any kind. The only data we handle is what the app needs to back up your own study content to your own account.

Information we collect

Account information: when you create an account we store your email address, and — if you sign in with Google or Apple — the name those providers share with the app.

Your study content: notes, highlights, bookmarks, prayer entries, reading-plan progress, and reading completions are saved to your account so they can be restored on your devices.

Device region: the country code your device reports (for example "US"). We use this only to respect regional email rules (see "Ministry updates" below). It is country-level only — we do not collect your location.

Crash diagnostics: if the app crashes or hits an internal error, a technical report (the error, the screen involved, your device model and OS version) may be sent to our crash-reporting service so we can fix the bug. These reports are scrubbed before sending — they never include your name, email, notes, prayers, or anything you've written — and they are never used to identify or track you.

We do NOT collect your precise location, contacts, photos, browsing history, advertising identifiers, or usage analytics. The app contains no advertising or analytics SDKs.

How your information is used

Your study content is used for exactly one purpose: backing up and syncing it across your devices. Your email address is used to sign you in and, as described under "Ministry updates" below, may be used by Oakseed Ministries to send you ministry news. Your data is never used for advertising or profiling, and it is never sold or shared with third parties for their own purposes.

Ministry updates (newsletter)

Oakseed Bible is built by Oakseed Ministries. If your device region is the United States, we may occasionally send ministry news and updates to the email address you signed up with. Every such email includes a one-tap unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing never affects your app account.

Outside the United States we will only email you ministry updates if you explicitly ask to receive them. Sign in with Apple private-relay addresses are never added to mailings you didn't request.

Where your data is stored

Account and sync data are stored with Google Firebase (Authentication and Cloud Firestore), encrypted in transit. Your synced content lives in a private record that only your signed-in account can read or write, enforced by server-side security rules. Bible text, commentaries, and devotionals are bundled with the app and read from your device — your reading activity itself is not transmitted anywhere.

Third-party services

Google Firebase — sign-in and encrypted storage of your synced content.

Scripture publishers (Crossway for the ESV; API.Bible for the NIV, NLT, NKJV, CSB, and NASB) — when you read one of these streamed translations, the app requests the passage text through our server. Only the passage reference is sent, or, when you search one of these translations, the words you searched for; no account identity is attached to these requests, and search words are not stored.

Cloudflare — serves optional downloadable content packs and relays the scripture requests above. Standard server logs (IP address) apply.

Expo (EAS Updates) — delivers app updates; the update check does not include personal information.

Sentry — receives the anonymized crash reports described under "Information we collect". Reports carry no account identity and are used solely to diagnose and fix bugs.

Notifications

The optional daily reading reminder is scheduled entirely on your device. Enabling it asks for the standard iOS notification permission; nothing about your reminders is sent to any server.

Data retention, export, and deletion

Your synced content is kept for as long as your account exists. You can export all of it at any time from Settings → Export my data.

You can permanently delete your account and all cloud data at any time from Settings → Delete account. Deletion removes your sync record and your sign-in record immediately; it cannot be undone. Content stored only on your device is removed when you delete the app.

Children

The app is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. A parent or guardian should create and manage the account used by a child.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the effective date above and, for material changes, describe them in the app's release notes. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
